FIRST

FIRST, which stands for "For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology", is a non-profit organization founded by Dean Kamen in 1989.

FIRST is dedicated to inspiring students to pursue education and careers in science and technology by participating in a team project that involves designing, manufacturing, building and driving their own robot.

Competitions are structured into three tiers: The FIRST Lego League (FLL) is meant to give younger students an introduction to robotics; the FIRST Robotics Challenge (FRC) is for students grade 9-12 and for mentors of all ages. As well as FLL and FRC, the organization also offers the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC).

Team 907 particpates in the FRC competition. Since the game changes from year to year, a completely new robot must be designed and built for each competition --- all within a six-week build period!

In September 2011, Team 907 members began to mentor "Rosebotics," a junior team that particpates in FLL.
